Buying a new PC
-
Hey guys , i think about buying a new PC , so i need the help of experienced people.
The new Pc should support Usb 3.0 and SataIII , and have a good working Ram, ans aswell a good motherboard with a lot of usb3.0 connections and a fast CPUcan you recommend a compilation of parts i can buy and put together ?
i do not want to pay more than 700€ for it
-
i plan to have a plotsize of together 14TB , and maybe expand to 25 TB
, do i need the gpu miner and a good GPU aswell?
-
if u got the money then buy a gpu to plot
-
@Hanftychoon I think it great to buy a dedicated PC, I made one my self for $650 CAD so $490 USD. Before I give you input on parts I would encourage you not to use USB 3.0 connections but instead use SATA 3 connections as they are faster(Plotting & Mining). I do understand that your probably going to buy external HDD's and plug them in to USB 3.0 but remember that most external HDD's are regular HDD's just in a case with a microchip that converts(With a Bottleneck) into a USB signal. Please refer
for an example of the tear-down process. Great so with that out of the way here's the parts to build a cheap but effective PC.NOTE: Your budget is 700 Euros = 1025 CAD dollars

A good note is to buy a gold certified PSU or your electricity bill might go up.Ok great so now you have your pc Almost done to total cost is $368.25 CAD Or 253.60 Euro (Don't have the symbol on my keyboard), this leaves you with 446.40 Euros. Now we have to look at the most important part the processor(you could go for a gpu but these might put you above budget and you still need a processor), my recommendation is to buy the best computer you can without a gpu and if later you have extra money then you could always upgrade(Keep in mind gpu's drop steeply in price over time so consider resell value of the computer as Intel Processor hold there value). Ok now with 446.40 Euros you can buy a kick ass processor or one that fits your needs and spend the extra money on whats important such as the HDD's .

Keep in mind that the mining speeds that I claim are for a single drive only. Example if I say that with a processor you get plotting speeds of 1TB every 6 hours and 15 mins and reading speeds of 4.5 secs per TB this is per drive, now lets stay you computer has 4 TB, to read this single 4 TB drive with the above speeds it would take 18 secs but if you had 2 x 2 TB drives it would only take 9 secs to read the 4 TB. This is because of a mixture of the bottleneck I explained above and the speed of your processor in Ghz (Cores help to Especially when plotting) Again if you use USB 3.0 you will have slower speeds the listed speeds are for SATA 3 ONLY

I can't offer any speeds for this as I didn't have it in my budget to buy it, I rather buy HDD's to get a return on investment. This processor in theory would cut the i7 6700k in half also because it's overclockable

Also note that if you run out of sata 3 ports on your motherboard you can pick one of these up instead of settling for slow USB 3.0

@AngryChicken thanks man
i was looking for something like that
are they reliable?
-
In practice not much speed difference between SATA 3 & USB 3. I run exclusively USB 3 as they seem cheaper and you don't run out of room in the case.
Rich
-
@RichBC are you using external drive cases or external HDD? as is internal HDD is way cheaper
-
@LithStud I am using USB 3 External Drives. 5TB Toshiba Canvio. In the UK these are the cheapest I can find new Drives £ / TB. Would love there to be a cheaper solution but I can't find one
Rich
-
@RichBC see for me 4TB is worth about 70euros (that how much i plan to pay for one, afcourse its second hand but gonna be in very good shape, still dont know the model but if its of slower kind i might be able to get even better price). Buying completly new HDD for me is just too insanly expensive
-
@LithStud The 5TB Drives are £105 GBP delivered with 2 Year Warranty.
Rich
-
@RichBC thats alot, at least for me its like 4th of what i get paind monthly so i trie to minimize costs whenever possible
-
Yes your 17 Euro / TB is better than my 23 Euro / TB and I guess I could find some second hand drives on ebay but I quite like having a warranty and as we all know the great thing about Burst is that a Drive, unlike an ASIC Miner, always has a resale value.
Rich
-
indeed
as i said i am fairly confident i will get good quality HDD
new ones with warranty and such sure is nice but those are for future... maybe
-
@LithStud About the IO crest expansion card it's as reliable as they come really. As long as it was handled properly during shipping
-
@AngryChicken thanks good to know
