Other altcoin mining?

  • Are there any other altcoins that can be mined with hdd's or is it only currently burst? Was just curious

  • I think SIA and Storj. It's different "mining" though. In SIA and Storj (and eventually Safecoin) you are being paid for others using your disk space, if your contracts get filled. With Burst you are using your disk space to process transactions and create new blocks. So in Burst your disk space acts as the processing power like with a GPU or ASIC, whereas in the others you're storing information.

  • Burst is the only coin that is "MINED" with HDD's but there are cypto's like Storj that pay you for letting them use your HDD space to store data for clients that pay them for the service. they effectively removed the mining side and distribute the coins by way of payment for supporting there storage network

Is storj or sia worth doing it?

  • @mathew no idea neer messed with them. a few people in the community use a small portion of space for Storj most complain that just because you dedicate a few TB's to it does not mean that Storj will fill and use that space right away or at all and they only pay out for the space they use not for the space you offer them to use.

  • i think it becomes and issue of supply and demand ... they get more people offering space to use than clients needing space to store info.

    ahh alright.

  • This post is deleted!

  • I am not defending them but are they just starting out? Their storage isnt fully available to the public and they are still testing? I think its worth watching!

  • I do not like the idea of letting anybody use my HDDs to store there junk, no matter how much they paid me. Unless it's a good trusted source. They're probably using your HDDs to store porn, host illegal bittorrents, or some s***.

I'm sorry but I don't like that idea, just in my opinion. 🙂

  • still testing ?? i thought Storj has been around for almost as long as Burst has .. or at least it was started well over a year ago .. ill have to look into that

  • yea founded in 2014 thats what i thought must of taken them a LONG time to get it off the ground and working.
Edit yep founded in late 2014 beta launched in april 2016. been hearing about it for a wile just figured they be past the testing stage by now.

  • I had my first payout from Storj 2 weeks ago.For 38GB out of 240GB dedicated they payed 38 sjcx.Payout is once a month.

  • Payout is quite decent, yes. I also have some leftover hdd space allocated to storj. 40gb gave me 40storj which translated into like 5USD's worth. Now imagine filling a 1tb drive completely! Thats 125,- a month at the current rates. Probably wont get there anytime soon, but i still think its worth some spare space
