Do I need to get a new wallet - meaning I have to replot my drives?
you can use the same plots
@ambro , need to check if after a few hours some other program is running. If I turn on Nicehash miner, my 24 sec scan time will go up to 35-40 secs.
Also, if a drive gets hot it has a tendency to slow down the entire process. Not sure of the mechanism for this but I have seen it. As soon as I disconnect the offending drive everything peps right up. Reconnect the offending drive and it still works until it gets hot. IIRC those "hot" drives eventually failed under warranty.
Your read speed is what it is. Total scan time for all drives is most important. You want to keep it under a minute, preferably 30 seconds or less. Over a minute is not the end of the world but you don't want to be still scanning a block and a new one is started. It would be just your luck to find a 2 sec DL but it was too late because of slow scan speeds. Whatever your base scan time, it will not degrade if you add more drives, until you hit the "wall". Then you need to add more computing power. If you doubled your TB the read speed would almost double and take about the same time as your original 7TB. At some point you will hit a level ("wall") where the added TB will start to slow down your total scan times.
One of my rigs is a 288 TB server. Here are the scan times I recorded awhile back.
If I disconnect all drives but one (8tb), I get 118mb/sec, 15 sec scan time.
2 drives, 202 MB/sec, 18 sec scan time, avg per drive, 101 MB/sec,
4 drives, 435 MB/sec, 19 sec scan time, avg per drive, 109 MB/sec,
8 drives, 835 MB/sec, 18 sec scan time, avg per drive, 104 MB/sec,
16 drives, 1485 MB/sec, 21 sec scan time, avg per drive, 93 MB/sec,
32 drives, 2552 MB/sec, 22 sec scan time, avg per drive, 80 MB/sec,
36 drives 2652 MB/sec, 24 sec scan time, avg per drive, 74 MB/sec.`
Hope this helps.
BTW, one of my other rigs is a $250 laptop with 90 TB of external drives. 75 second scan times. It hits blocks every week. So don't worry so much about speed, just get in the game :)
@IncludeBeer , I have a server with 32 threads and 36 drives, 24 second scan time.
@Digidigm , Jminer reports "computing units" at startup. I tried the concatenation of the drives like haitch explained with no discernable increase in read speed. I just run my drives one at a time now.
@Digidigm , no it is ok, keeps network traffic from getting overloaded with useless DLs.
@Digidigm , because while it was getting ready to be sent out, the miner found a better DL.
